Cooper Cutlery Weed & Co. Trapper Hunter Jigged Red Bone (5119JRB)

PLEASE READ: These knives are the newest release from Cooper Cutlery, owners of Schatt&Morgan Cutlery located in Winchester, Ohio. The overall quality has improved tremendously since their first release of knives in 2021-2022. I still consider these knives similar to Case quality. The fit and finish is good, blades are centered but the blade edges are not razor sharp. Please email us if you have any questions. Thank you.

A diamond in the rough

Let me start by saying this is huge leap forward compared to the first release. Fitment is great. Only gap I can find is between liner and spring near the pile side bolster. I have to hold it up to light to find it. Transition to bolster is nice and smooth.
Biggest improvement is the spun pins, recessed in the covers, and the pinned shield. That's grabbing for the ring there.
Action is good. A strong 5. It could be beefier, but it's no slouch.
I won't talk about the edge cause I knew it wasn't sharp going in. FWIW, I've had to sharpen every Case I've ever bought, so there's that. I did profile it to 17 degrees, and it's slicey, and I can't detect any blade wrap.
So the bad is simply that they left a lot of sharp edges on the bone and the shield where it protrudes in the jigging. I remedied it with a rubber point on a dremel. Easy and now it's all lovely to the touch.
I see from the tang stamp this is still early 2021. I understand they've improved even more.
So hers the deal. It's damn good, but not completely perfect. Its US made in a what, 5 man operation. There's a prayer engraved inside one of the liners. Totally handmade and rather personal.
Considering all that, and that these will soon be unobtainable as GEC, I think it's decent value.
BTW, for me this is a pocketable size and I'm carrying it.
