A Most Excellent Congress

I purchased two of these Congresses with two types of handles. One with the Green Micarta and the other with the Burlwood. These knives are large, but fit my hands like a glove. I really like the Wharncliffe blades, which is why I found these two to be very attractive.

Both of them open smoothly and close with a snap. The lines are very nice and the run up of the blade to the spring is exact and like it should be. RoseCraft designed these just right and the manufacturer did right by RoseCraft...as always.

TPK and Team does it right too. GREAT correspondence and FAST shipping...again, as ALWAYS. As a veteran, I always choose to support TPK in their endeavors to present a GREAT quality product to the knife collectors and/or purchasers. Their customer service is above and beyond. Thanks guys for a superb product once again. I thoroughly enjoy purchasing knives from TPK when I see something new arrive. I know, without a doubt, I'm going to get the quality every knifer desires and looks forward too. Keep up the great work and Bravo Zulu!

Respectfully....KLJ

Another Wonderful RoseCraft Slip Joint

The RoseCraft Mud Creek Congress in green micarta is another great slip joint. It has an excellent pull around 6 out of 10 (strength) but cannot be pinch pulled. The ergo's are excellent and it's a slicer. Its sister knife in burlwood is equally fantastic.

Would buy again (so I did)

This is probably my favorite Rosecraft model, out of the dozen or so I own.
Let's start with the construction of it: its transitions are nearly perfect, the blade is centered, and the micarta is shaped very symmetrically. Rosecraft has departed (for the moment) from using nickel-silver pins, and has opted to use brass instead. I think it looks great with both the micarta and burl variants.
The way it feels in hand is excellent. It's a tad narrow, but the swell of the covers provides a good amount of material to help with grip. On top of that, the shape of the frame itself is optimal for forward or pull cutting, and might even make a good pruning knife.
The nail nick is good, though I would have liked it to reach slightly linger toward the tip. With the leverage you're given, the pull feels like a 5.5 to 6. Not too light and certainly not too heavy. I would prefer 7-8, but it's not easily pinched open and it's a small-framed knife, so I can't say it's not suited correctly.
On the negative side, but still no points deducted, both of my Mud Creek knives showed up with crummy secondary bevels. Why does this matter? For two reasons: first, it would make it much more difficult to properly maintain the edge, as flat stones wouldn't necessarily be able to follow the bevel's angle. Second: I re-sharpened each out of the box (basically). While not difficult to do, it shouldn't be an end user's immediate task.
(My micarta model still had a burr on most of the edge, and the bevel was very uneven. My burl model was quite even, but had a very high angle, and wasn't overly sharp. I'm not counting this against Rosecraft, but we should note that wharncliffe blades are the easiest kind to sharpen. In the future, I hope the manufacturer pays a little more attention to the sharpening process.)
