The tooled floor of this tray is handmade from Hermann Oak Vegetable Tanned Grade-A Tooling Leather - the very best available. I have oiled and sealed them and they require no upkeep. To clean, brush out with a soft brush.
The body is made from flexible, durable, oil-tanned leather that is wax-infused at the mill. Some colors of oil-tanned leather exhibit a “pull-up effect” where the surface of the leather lightens at flexed areas, creating a handsome vintage-looking patina. Because these leathers were waxed and oiled at the mill, they too have no need for upkeep.

Here are some more tips to keep your tray in top condition.
-Tight is right! I build these trays a bit tight at the corners, so that after breaking-in the sizing is just right.
-"This stuff wears like iron!" I wish that was true. However, it wears like leather. Some colors will darken and some will mellow. This natural patina has a rather beautiful way of marking the passage of time.
-Leather and water do not make good friends.
