The Berg Blades Alpha is a big knife, with very good ergonomics, and in hand, it feels like a beast. But the slick design, the beautiful blade finish, with this bead blasted fuller, and the very chic carbon fiber scales, give this folding knife a touch of elegance which really sets it appart from other big bladed knives. The detente is very well tuned, for both fuller and front flipper openings, the fits and finishes are impeccable, and to me, this is a knife as nice to look as it is to operate.
This is an excellent larger folder. It’s lighter than I expected. The listed weight is for the frame lock. This carbon liner lock on my scale is 4.4 oz. The liners under the carbon are extremely skeletonized. The handle is thick but very comfortable. It takes up space in the pocket but doesn’t feel like a brick. It’s lighter by an oz than my other larger folders like my Hinderers. The only problem with the knife is the clip. It’s way too tight. It doesn’t work great with even normal jeans pockets. I added a card stock spacer under mine and it helped a bit. I still love the blade as an all-rounder.
Very sharp out the box and ground decently thin for being a heavier blade stock.
